Fort Wayne - Walter Clarence Friend, 77, passed away suddenly on Monday, June 24, 2024. He was born November 28, 1946, in Defiance, Ohio. Walt was a social butterfly in all aspects of life. He was extremely quick-witted, selfless, and caring. He loved cards, especially Hearts and Euchre, and was getting back into golfing with friends. He was a member at Legion 409 and Legion 47, where his infectious laugh could light up the room. He often helped at Good Shepherd United Methodist Church where he had been a member for years. Walter loved to spend time with family and friends by cooking, laughing, and drinking good red wine. Nothing made him happier than entertaining with family, friends, and his grandchildren. His favorite holiday was April 1 when he could outwit his grandchildren, who love to reflect on all of those memorable pranks. While in the Army, Walt was awarded the National Defense Service Medal.
